Interactive media products: In the Picoo project each team member decided to start making their Figma prototype for the quiztafette game. There is already a Picoo app which was very helpful to take inspiration from and create a design that has a similar look. Figma prototype
Reflection
What did I learn: Everyone in the team decided that we want to have a head start so we started making UI for the quiztafette game. We didn’t really have any interviews done yet so couldn't really make a UI that matches the target group needs.
Improvements: I could have made more lo-fi prototypes and looked at their brand guide of the Picoo app.
Conclusion: I couldn't make a prototype that matches the target group needs because our group didn't have any interviews yet.
Interactive media products: For the development project, I send our website to users to get feedback on the design and usability.
Reflection
What did I learn: User testing is really important to get feedback on the design and usability of the product. Without user testing, it is hard to know if the product is user-friendly and meets the needs of the target group. You also learn what the target audience prefers along the way, so you can implement those changes in the final product.
Improvements: I could have done more user testing and asked more specific questions to get more detailed feedback. I could have also asked more people to test the product to get a wider range of feedback. Also I could have done it in person and not just online, so I could see the users' reactions and get more insights.
Conclusion: User testing is a crucial part of the design process. It didn't go as planned, but I learned some things such as doing user testing online is not as effective as doing it in person.
Interactive media products: In the early stages of my portfolio my banner buttons made some confusion for the users, so I decided to change them to make it more clear.
Reflection
What did I learn: After the teacher pointed out that my banner buttons cause confusion I changed them to make it more clear. I learned that it is important to get feedback from users and stakeholders to improve the design.
Improvements: In the previous version I had "Next" and "Previous" which made some confusion for the users. I changed them to "Projects" and "Outcomes" to make it more clear what the buttons do. It also makes the navigation more intuitive.
Conclusion: If the teacher didn't point out that the buttons cause confusion, I wouldn't have changed them.
Relevant tech, media and design landscape: After doing a prototype for a food delivery app and showing it to Wouter, he suggested that I look into material.io to make my designs cleaner and more modern. To find out more about it, I did some research on material.io and how to apply it in my designs. Material.io I also watched a video tutorial on how to use it in Figma. Tutorial link.
Reflection
What did I learn: I learned that material.io is a design kit that provides components, icons and clean layouts to help designers create modern websites and apps. After reading about it I tried to apply it to my app and instantly saw improvements in my design. I learned about component consistency which is key when designing a website or app. Figma link.
Improvements: I found out about Material.io recently and I think I can improve my designs by using it more often. Also, I need to show my designs to the teacher so I can get his feedback on things such as layout and component usage.
Conclusion: Material.io is a a relevant tool used in media design which helped me and other creators create clean and modern websites and apps. I will continue using it in my Figma prototypes and it will especially come in hande in the next semester when I will be doing front-end development.
Tested with users and stakeholders: From previous portfolio reviews I got feedback that I should test my portfolio with users and stakeholders to get feedback on the design and usability.
Reflection
What did I learn: I learned that my portfolio has some usability issues that need to be fixed. My fonts and page navigation need some improvements as well as my homepage doesn't have my portrait yet. Each learning outcomes page should have a button at the bottom so the user is able to click it and ho to the next page. Also my paragraph titles need to be bigger and more visible to clearly see what the paragraph is about.
Improvements: I will try to improve my portfolio by making the fonts bigger and more readable. I also could have asked more people for feedback on my portfolio to get a wider range of opinions.
Conclusion: Testing with users and stakeholders is a crucial part of the design process. My portfolio still needs some improvements, but I learned a lot from the feedback that I got.
Tested with users and stakeholders: During my Project X development I wanted to do some user testing to see what the users think and if my website is user-friendly. I asked my classmate to use my Project X website and give me feedback on what I still need to improve.
Reflection
What did I learn: I learned that my website still needs improvements. In the header under the "Games" section I have a game called "Snake" which is not included in my games section since I decided to do "Memory match" instead of "Snake". Also my font sizes sizes need to be bigger because now it's hard to see them from a far. Besides that I still need to add the rules of the game to the website so the users know how to play it.
Improvements: Like the portfolio testing, I need to do more user testing and apply all the feedback they give me. For now I will focus on the feedback that I got from my classmate and try to improve my website by making bigger text, added rules and fixed "Games" section in my header.
Conclusion: Testing with users and stakeholders is a crucial part of the design process. Now I now what I need to improve in my Project X website and I will try to apply all the feedback that I got.
